Picture Special: Niall MacEachmharcaigh honoured at special council reception

Well known Donegal writer, director and actor Niall Mac Eachmharcaigh was today honoured at a special reception in the Dungloe Public Service Centre for his outstanding career achievements. 
Niall Mac Eachmharcaigh is best known for playing the part of John Joe Daly in TG4’s Irish-language drama, Ros na Rún.  He started his acting career in theatre and has also written a number of TV shows, including the award-winning comedy CU Burn which he also directed. Niall is a native of Rann na Feirste and has starred in Irelands longest running TV drama for over 16 years.

The reception on Friday afternoon was hosted by the Glenties Municipal District of Donegal County Council. Speaking at the special event, Cathaoirleach of the Municipal District Cllr Micheal Cholm MacGiolla Easbuig said he was delighted to be hosting this event in honour of Niall Mac Eachmharcaigh’s outstanding contribution as a writer, director and actor and in particular his contribution to the Irish language.

Cllr Micheal Cholm MacGiolla Easbuig said: “It is a great pleasure and honour for me coming from the same community and being a close personal friend of Niall’s to be in a position to host this special event to honour his contribution to the arts and in particular to the Irish language. Niall has continued the wonderful tradition of writing in our native language building on the rich legacy of our heritage in the Rann na Feirste community.  He has written scores of plays and is renowned throughout the island of Ireland as a wonderful writer.”

A special message from Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D. Higgins was read out during the ceremony.  An Uachtarán na hÉireann acknowledged Niall’s loyalty to his native language and to his native Rann na Feirste and described him as a great representative of his community.
Niall Mac Eachmharcaigh was presented with the special scroll to mark the occasion of the reception.
