Summer holiday plans could face disruption after Irish Ryanair pilots announced plans to strike on Thursday 12th July.
Up to 100 members of the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association working at the budget airline will take strike action on the commonly busy travel day from 1am for 24 hours. The union said it would notify Ryanair of additional strike days in due course.
According to the union, the dispute is over management’s approach to transferring pilots between bases. Pilots voted overwhelmingly in favour of industrial action by 99%.
Ryanair has said they will contact customers next Tuesday 10th July by email and SMS if the strike action will go ahead. “Since Ireland accounts for less than 7% of Ryanair flights, we expect that 93% of our customers will be unaffected by any pilot strike next Thursday,” a statement said.
