Letterkenny Community Centre is hosting a family 5k run and walk this Sunday, July 8th, at 10.30 am.

Proceeds from the race will go towards the Letterkenny Community Centre Development and Equipment Fund.

The community centre has long been at the centre of activities in the town and offers a huge range of courses and classes.

“We are always looking at new courses and new classes and have plans for a new building,” explained Community Centre Manager Liam O’Donnell.

The centre is a real hive of activity and continues to go from strength to strength.

And he added: “The route is flat and there will be a strong emphasis on families and participation. There will also be spot prizes on the day.”

The 5k is being run in conjunction with Run for Fun Letterkenny, a social running group that meets on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at Letterkenny Community Centre for non-competitive runs, typically of 5k.

“Running is a great way of keeping fit and there is also a great social side to it,” explained Run for Fun leader Chris Ashmore.

Many of the Run for Fun runners have done the Couch to 5k class which enables people to go from zero to running a full 5k in just eight weeks.

The next Couch to 5k class begins next Monday, July 9th, at 6.30 pm.

Sunday’s Letterkenny Community Centre Family 5k Run and Walk begins at 10.30 am and registration is just €5. It starts and finishes from the centre on the Pearse Road.

Registration is now available at Letterkenny Community Centre, or on Sunday from 9.30 am onwards.
