Sommer shines in Finland to reach World U20 final

Sommer Lecky has booked her place in Sunday’s high jump final at the IAAF World U20 Athletics Championships in Finland.

This morning, the Finn Valley AC ace successfully cleared the bar at six different  heights. – without knocking the bar once.

Lecky leapt 1.70m, 1.74, 1.77, 1.80, 1.82 and, finally, the 1.84 needed to book a spot in Sunday’s final and did so each mark at the first time of asking.

Lecky led the way in her qualification group at the Ratina Stadium in Tampere.

The 17-year-old Castlederg woman is among an 18-strong Irish squad competing in Finland.

Finn Valley AC’s Neil Martin is the Irish team leader in Finland, while Lecky’s coach, Niall Wilkinson, and her parents, Adrian and Heather, have also made the trip.
