Another fine weekend for Kilmacrennan teen Richard Kerr at Thruxton

Kilmacrennan teenager Richard Kerr had another fine weekend at Thruxton for Round 7 of the Dickies Supersport Championship, which runs alongside the British Superbike Championships.

Riding the Campbell Motorsport Triumph machine Richard qualified in 15th position and less than 2 seconds off pole position.

Richard has been steadily improving with each outing on the triumph after stepping up from the Motostar class this season and things have been going well as he continues to score points regularly.

Richard made a good start in race one and was running in 14th place in the opening laps and soon got involved in a battle for 12th with 4 other riders.

A group of 8 broke clear at the front and Richard was in the 3rd group and after some frantic passing moves Richard was in 13th position going into the final chicane on the last lap and was forced wide after another rider dived up the inside and forced him through the chicane.

Richard rejoined just in front of the other riders as they passed the chequered flag but was unfortunately penalised 2 seconds for missing the chicane, a bit harsh considering he rejoined in the same position as they where entering  the chicane and with the time penalty dropped him to 13th instead of 11th. Still, some valuable points.

Race two and Richard lined up on the 5th row and once again made a good start and was up in 13th again as the race settled again it was a battle for the top 12.

As in race one, they swapped positions every lap and Richard was in 13th position with two laps remaining, 7th position to 13th was covered by less than two seconds and Richard was planning a few out-braking moves on the last two laps but unfortunately the red flags came out after the two leaders collided and both crashed out uninjured.

Richard was a bit disappointed as he was aiming for his first top ten of the year but an 11th place finish in his rookie season at the fastest short circuit in Europe was a fantastic result.

Richard’s average speed for the race was over 105mph and he came away with 8 more points.

The team now head to Caldwell Park in two weeks time where Richard secured his first podium in the British championship in 2015 and will be aiming to get into that top ten.

Richard would like to thank Campbell Motorsport and all his sponsors for their continued support for which he is most grateful.
