A rabbit owner deliberately dumped a neglected rabbit outside the community centre in Donegal Town this morning – and even left it in its cage.
The rabbit, now named Roger, was taken in by the Animals in Need charity.
The pet had bad dandruff, was skinny, desperately thirsty and on closer examination had badly overgrown teeth.
A spokesperson for Animals in Need said this is from pure neglect and rendered the pet unable to either eat, drink or clean himself.
The spokesperson added “When has it become acceptable to just dump an animal when you don’t want them anymore?
“I can’t be bothered so someone else can deal with the consequences” seems to have become the new norm. This week alone we have had a heavily pregnant dog, kittens, cats and now a rabbit in his cage dumped.
“This is from pure neglect and rendered him unable to either eat, drink or clean himself.
A visit to the vets fixed his teeth and he delighted in tucking into both food and water on his return to a nice clean cage.
“Dumping an animal is NEVER acceptable,” added the spokesperson.
