Design work is underway to stop the discharge of untreated wastewater into the Lough Foyle and ‘seriously polluted’ Bredagh River – with the project aiming to be concluded by 2022.
According to Irish Water, design work has begun to develop wastewater infrastructure in Moville, County Donegal and install municipal wastewater treatment facilities.
The introduction of cleaner water to the area will act as a platform for social, economic and population development.
The schemes advancement is at an early stage with Irish Water carrying out a technical review of the project with engineers appointed to undertake detailed design, planning and procurement services. The planning application will be submitted to the Local Authority in 2019.
Third party surveys and landowner engagement has also commenced which will help determine the best solution for this scheme.
The new sewerage scheme will bring benefits to the area in terms of health, the integrity of the environment and improved water quality for all.
The project aims to ensure that the water quality standards set down by regulatory bodies will be achieved.
Irish Water will engage with the local community over the course of the project’s development with the intent of holding a public information event in the area once data has been collected.
