Pic Special: GOAT Tri and Swim success for Letterkenny 24/7 members

It was another action-weekend for Letterkenny 24/7 as they had success in GOAT Triathlon and Swim.

GOAT Triathlon

Ciaran Callaghan travelled to the Glens of Antrim Triathlon on Saturday to take on his first sprint distance event. Ciaran had a brilliant debut race. He had a super swim of 19:39 before a strong bike and 24:54 finish in the 5K. Ciaran finished with an overall time of 1:40:29.

DART 10K swim

Karen Crawford travelled to the South of England to take part in the DART 10k swim last Saturday. Karen had an official time of 2:25- a superb time for a swim of that distance! What an amazing achievement, well done Karen.

Glencar Lake Swim

Closer to home three 24/7 members took part in the annual Glencar Lake swim. In the 5k distance, Siobhan Gallagher had a superb race finishing in a brilliant time of 1:06:00 claiming 1st place. Paddy Bond also took on the 5k distance.

Paddy with another fine swim finishing in 1:35:01. Mary Bond, ahead of her sprint triathlon debut next weekend took on the 1k event; Mary had a brilliant swim finishing in a time of 31:15.

10k/5k round-up

Siobhan Coyle took part in the Milford 10k on Saturday and crossed the line in 63:09; Bridie Devenney took on the 5k event and finished in a time of 35:29. There was a good 24/7 turnout at Tuesdays Loreto Convent 5k, Suzie Bogan, 28:58, Sharon Black, 32:05, Fiona Gibbons, 32:05, Bridie Devenney, 36:49, Fiona Temple, 36:49, all, running well.

AGM

The Club’s AGM will be held on Friday 12th of October in the Mulroy room at the Education centre in Saint Conal’s hospital at 7.30pm. All members welcome.

Nominations are invited for Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, PRO, technical officer and eight committee members for the main committee. We are also seeking nominations for Youth Committee: Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Liaison officer (Safeguarded 1&3), Children’s officer (Safeguarded 1&2) and six committee members.

The club are also seeking race and assistant director for the Duathlon, Try a Tri, Super Sprint Events and Gartan races.

Please email nominations to club secretary Anne Robinson (secretary@letterkenny247.com) by Wednesday 10th October. Any motions to be discussed at the AGM must also be sent in by this date.

The 2018 24/7 Club Awards night will take place in Arena 7 on Friday, November 30.

Club Training

Club training continues as follows:
– Monday: Coached track session at Aura

Message from Coach Ciaran O’Donnell: Leaving reception at Aura at 6.30pm SHARP to complete two-mile warm up, out past Ballymacool Park. Latecomers will know where to head to meet them if anyone running late. On track and warmed up for 6.50pm, with session getting underway as soon as!

– Wednesday: Swim session- Beginners 7-8pm, All others 8-9pm
– Thursday: Long run session leaves Aura at 6.30pm sharp- Hi-Viz is compulsory for these sessions – be safe, be seen!
– Saturday: Club cycle from Aura at 9am. All members must have front and rear lights as well as mudguards to take part in the club session.
– Saturday: Club swim session Saturday at 6pm. Additional lane added for 14-16yr old club members- MUST be accompanied by a parent (please note prepayment does not cover Saturday swim)
