An eight-year-old schoolboy has died after being hit by a car last night in Maghera, Derry.

The boy was struck by a car close to the entrance to a service station on Glenshane Road at around 8 pm on Thursday night.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are appealing for witnesses to get in contact and assist with the investigation.

PSNI Inspector Andy Harvison said: “We are investigating the circumstances of the collision and would like to hear from witnesses or anyone who may have captured dashcam footage.

“Please call 101, quoting reference number 1212 20/09/18.”
