Paddy McCourt believes Finn Harps have the structures in place to stay in the Premier Division.
McCourt had to come off injured after only 16 minutes, but the anticlimax on a personal level was overtaken by the emotion of Harps’ achievement.
“Pure joy,” McCourt – who scored the goal in the 1-0 home leg win – said.
“It was disappointing and I spent four or five minutes feeling sorry for myself. After that, it was back to focus and trying to get the right result.
“From a personal point of view, a wee bit disappointed. But for the club, the lads, the management and the people behind the scenes, it was a great night and the traveling support were great.”
McCourt joined Harps as a bluechip signing at the start of the 2017 season and the former Celtic and Northern Ireland player stayed put even after relegation last year.
He said: “There’s been ups and downs, but it’s great to finish on a high. The club is in a good place and they deserve to be in the Premier League.”
