Donagh Kelly, Declan Boyle plump for R5 cars for 2019 Championship

Top Donegal rally drivers Donagh Kelly and Declan Boyle are set to compete in the 2019 Irish Tarmac Championship in R5 cars.

However, both drivers are expected to retain their current World Rally cars and could both take to the start line of next summer’s Donegal International Rally in their familiar machines, respected motorsport journalist Martin Walsh says in today’s Irish Examiner.

Kelly will keep hold of his WRC Focus and Boyle will not be dispensing with the WRC Fiesta just yet.

The move to the R5 cars in time for the Galway International Rally is to have a cut at the Championship.

As the rules stand, WRC drivers are eligible to win individual events, but cannot amass championship points.

Frosses man Kelly and Lettermacaward’s Boyle are both former Tarmac Championship winners.
