Donegal theme as IAAF confirm list of international walk judges

The IAAF, the world governing body for athletics at their annual meeting in Monaco this week, announced a new list of accredited international walk judges – and there is a strong Donegal theme.

The list covers the period to include the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Ireland is privileged to have two on this  coveted listing and the Donegal/Finn Valley AC connection is very strong with Pierce O’Callaghan and Shaun Gallagher included.

Pierce is son of Donegal Athletics Chairman Bernie O’Callaghan,  Killybegs, a coach at Finn Valley .

Shaun, from Drimarone, is also a member at Finn Valley AC and is included on the global list of 23 judges.

Pierce has judged both at London and Rio Olympic Games amongst other major championships, including world championships,  and will now add Tokyo in 2020.

Shaun has in recent years judged European and Asian  event championships and will add the World Under-20 Championships in Kenya  to the list 2020 amongst others .

Shaun, a keen GAA follower in addition to his athletics duties, both locally at Finn Valley and nationally is, with Pierce, excited to engage this challenge.

All at Finn Valley AC extend congrats to the two officials on these prestigious appointments
