Delight for Milford primary school pupils as they reach Big Cook-Off final

Primary School pupils from Scoil Mhuire Milford, Hayden Nelis and Oisin McHugh, have won a place in the grand final of the Mount Charles Big School Cook-Off competition in March.

Nearly 200 dishes were entered into the first stage of the contest, with only the very best making it as far as the regional heats.

The Scoil Mhuire team’s dish of Noisette of Lamb, Minted Pea Puree, Duchess Potatoes and a Rosemary Jus saw them earn a coveted spot in the final.

After an outstanding display of talent, they will join seven other teams from across Northern Ireland and Donegal in the final at Belfast Met’s Titanic Quarter campus.

Special guest Imelda McCarron, a contestant from the BBC’s Great British Bake Off, will join the judging panel for the grand final.

Elaine Nelis, who runs cooking lessons at Scoil Mhuire, Milford, Co. Donegal said: “I’m very proud of the boys’ achievement, especially given just how young they are. Their dish was fantastic, both in taste and presentation.

“They’ve been practising non-stop, even in their spare time so they deserve the reward and chance to get to the final of the competition in March,” she added.

“This has been great for their confidence and has allowed them to see the opportunities that might lie ahead of them.”
