BJ Banda was back in a familiar spot today as his late double fired Letterkenny Rovers to Donegal News USL League Cup glory.
Banda struck twice in the dying moments as Rovers denied Cockhill Celtic a seventh successive double.
Banda, back in 2015, headed in a legendary late header to seal promotion for Finn Harps at the Town End goal. And it was at the same end today that he stepped up with the goods for Rovers.
“I have history on that one,” Banda told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“It’s good to be back here. I got a good welcome back.
“It’s good to get a bit of silverware. It was a long season, a tough season. It was good to give them a game and get the win. Cockhill keep going to the end, but we kept going and got the break at the end.”
Rovers led through Lee Toland’s first-half penalty, but Jimmy Bradley brought Cockhill level on 71 minutes. Rovers ‘keeper Rory Kelly saved a penalty by Gerry Gill and Banda’s brace sealed the win.
Banda said: “I was just praying we could keep it at one-one, but we got a wee lucky break. I was right there and the rest is history. The other goal was the icing on the cake.”
