IRISH BADMINTON coach Daniel Magee has been the picture of cool all week – but admits it has been a struggle as he watched siblings Chloe and Sam win a European medal.

By Chris McNulty at the 2019 European Games

Daniel is Irish coach and performance director and was court-side at the Falcon Club in Minsk at the European Games.

Chloe and Sam won a mixed doubles bronze to crown a memorable week for them.

“It can be difficult because you’re trying to control your emotions,” Daniel said after the Magees were beaten by Gabrielle and Chris Adcock in this morning’s semi-final.

“You have to try and be cool and professional.

“When the results come, you can let go of the emotion and celebrate as a brother.

“To get the medal is a massive bonus.

“The guys weren’t seeded and had a really tough group.

“It’s nice to come away with these type of wins

The Magees were also bronze medalists in Baku at the 2015 European Games.

The Magees fought ferociously over the week and again today. After losing the first game 21-8, they battled right to the end and were only pipped 21-18 in the second.

Daniel said: “The first game slipped away from them.

“I’m proud how they fought back in second changed tactics and made it really competitive.”
