Lecky, Kelly to compete in European Classic Grand Prix

WORLD UNDER-20 silver medallist Sommer Lecky and John Kelly compete this evening in the European Classic Grand Prix event in Sweden.

Finn Valley duo Lecky and Kelly are in Karlstad for the event.

Last year, in Tampere, Finland, Lecky leapt to World Under-20 silver when she cleared 1.90 metres in the high jump. Lecky finished behind Karina Taranda of Belarus, who won with a 1.92m leap.

Lecky, who is coached by Niall Wilkinson, was named as the Irish Under-20 athlete of the year for 2018.

In February, the Castlederg woman won the national indoor championships, her best of 1.86m equalling her Irish Junior and Under-23 records.

Kelly has remained in Sweden following his exploits at the weekend. The St Johnston man broke the Finn Valley, Donegal and Ulster shot putt records when he threw 17.79 metres in Bottnaryd.
