Sommer Lecky soars into European U20 final in Sweden

FINN VALLEY AC’S Sommer Lecky has qualified for the women’s high jump final at the 2019 European Under-20 Athletics Championships.

A leap of 1.81 metres was enough to see Lecky – last year’s World junior silver medalist – into Saturday’s final.

Lecky cleared 1.70m, 1.74m and 1.78m at the first attempts and, at the second try, got over at 1.81m to go through as one of the 12 qualifiers for the final.

St Johnston’s James Kelly, also a Finn Valley athlete, had a disappointing day in the men’s shot put in Boras as he recorded three no-throws and didn’t progress to the final.

The Irish team is managed by Finn Valley AC stalwart Neil Martin – who was also team manager for the Irish Athletics team at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Napoli.
