BRENDAN Boyce has been nominated for the Endurance Athlete of the Year Award ahead of this year’s Irish Life Health National Athletics Awards.

Boyce finished sixth in the men’s 50k racewalk at the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha.

The Finn Valley AC clubman came through piercing temperatures along the Corniche.

Boyce’s performance was described by Patsy McGonagle, the former Irish Olympic Team Manager, as ‘the best performance ever by a Donegal athlete’.

In temperatures that soared beyond 30 degrees, Boyce finished in 4:07:46.

The Milford native has already sealed his spot at the 2020 Olympic Games and is coached by former World champion Rob Heffernan.

The awards take place on November 28 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Blanchardstown, where the legendary Sonia O’Sullivan will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
