Listen: David O’Herlihy hails St Eunan’s College ‘spirit’ after moving MacRory win

DAVID O’Herlihy praised his St Eunan’s College side as they ground an impressive MacRory Cup win over Patrician High at The Burn Road.

Just five days after St Eunan’s young players laid to rest their classmate and team-mate Callum Friel, they took to the field in emotional circumstances.

However, Kieran Tobin’s goal, nine minutes from the end, gave St Eunan’s a 1-5 to 0-4 win.

“It was very hard,” O’Herlihy told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“As hard as it was for us, it’s a different ball game for the Friel family. They’re only young lads. It was tough going.  I’m just so proud of them.

“It was an opportunity to go out and honour Callum’s memory. They’re a special group in there and it matters to them. It shows today the spirit they have.”
