Glengad held by Carn and it’s advantage Aileach at the top

IT’S ADVANTAGE Aileach at the top of the Inishowen League Premier Division after Glengad were held to a scoreless draw by Carn at The Crua.

Glengad United 0 Carn FC 0

For the second time this season Glengad failed to find a way past a resolute Carn defence who battled superbly.

The home side dominated the opening half but the visitors spurned a glorious chance of the stroke of half time.

Glengad started well and on 6 minutes Stephen McLaughlin found Patrick McDermott on the edge of the area but he fired wide. The same duo combined again on 18minutes  but McDermott unmarked failed to hit the target from six yards.

McDermott then spurned a third chance when he fired over after a Finn McClure cross had broken to him on the edge of the area. They continued to create chances with Dillon Ruddy sending Terence Doherty clear but he also failed to hit the target.

Doherty was then denied by a brilliant point blank save from Gerard Crossan after good work by Seamus Doherty had found him six yards out.

Carn broke on the stroke of half time after Lorcan Bradley sent substitute Barry Fallon clear with a ball over the top and he lifted the ball over the advancing Daniel Mullarkey but saw it  go agonisingly wide.

Substitute Cathal McDaid then crossed to the unmarked McDermott at the back post but he fired tamely wide when he should have done better.  Their final effort came from a Dillon Ruddy effort which also went narrowly wide but the Carn defence in the main stood firm and restricted the home side to earn a valuable point.

Glengad are level on points with Aileach, but Aileach have two games in hand.
