Listen: Ollie Horgan assesses latest ‘huge test’ for Finn Harps

FINN Harps manager Ollie Horgan has warned that history points to a difficult night for his men at the Brandywell on Friday night.

After an encouraging 1-0 win on Friday’s season-opener against Sligo Rovers at Finn Park, Harps face Derry City this week. However, as they ready themselves to go into the Brandywell’s furnace, Horgan has tempered the optimism.

“We’ve been turned over very comfortably in there in the last couple of years,” Horgan told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.

“We were beaten 4-0 in both League games last year. It’s a huge test for us and it’ll take us a while for us to kick on and improve.”

Karl O’Sullivan netted on Friday night against Sligo, but Horgan isn’t jumping ahead of himself.

He said: “Any points are extremely difficult to get. We ran our luck in the second half. It was great to get a win the first day out.

“It doesn’t matter a jot where you get them as long as you get enough points to stay in the Division.

“We need to try to get points along with it to stay in touch with the Division. Any win or result breeds confidence. We are really only starting off.”

Harps face Shelbourne at home on Monday night and Horgan is worried about having two quick-fire games.

He said: “We struggle big time when we have two games in a weekend.  Last year, when we went to Tallaght on a Monday night, we were gone at half-time.

“We just couldn’t sustain it with the numbers. We hope we’re better equipped and we have to use the numbers wisely.”
