A bright young student from Glenties will have her thinking cap on today as she competes in the All Ireland LinguisticsOlympiad National Final.
Aoife Mongan from St. Columba’s Comprehensive School in Glenties is one of 100 students hoping to represent Ireland at the International LinguisticsOlympiad (IOL) in Latvia this summer.
Four students will be chosen from today’s exams to join the national team in July 2020.
Run by the ADAPT SFI Research Centre for Digital Media Technology, the All Ireland LinguisticsOlympiad contest challenges secondary school students to apply logic and reasoning skills to solve complex puzzles in unfamiliar languages.
The contest helps students to develop transferable skills relevant to maths, coding and languages
The contest also aims to inspire students to pursue the exciting range of careers combining computing, linguistics and languages.
