SHANE McGinty says momentum is now the aim as Kildrum Tigers look to make further inroads on a Donegal League Premier Division title charge.
Kildrum are ten points behind Kilmacrennan Celtic, but have three games in hand.
“We want to get a bit of momentum and see where that takes us,” McGinty told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub.
“It was a really good performance by us. Bonagee are tit-for-tat with us in the table. To come out 5-1 winners, we’re obviously delighted.
“Brian has had a really good start. He had a strong game on Sunday and created a lot. More impressive was how he finished his goals. He had three chances and collected three goals – it’s not often you see that in football.”
McGinty paid tribute to stand-in goalkeeper William Lynch, who donned the gloves in the absence of the unavailable regular net-minder Rory Carr: “You have to credit him for taking on the mantle.”
The experience of McHugh, Gary Crossan and Matthew Crossan was highlighted by McGinty as vital to his charges.
McHugh’s second, Kildrum’s fifth of the night, was a sumptuous curler from 25 yards – a trademark of the ex-Finn Harps striker.
McGinty said: “We have seen that so many times. Kevin has been doing that for years. It was a cracking finish.
“Those players have been around the block. to say that I’m managing those players is a big statement. Those boys are top drawer and I do believe they’re bringing on players like Luke Toland, Jamie McKinney, Oran Higgins. It speaks volumes for the older boys and their attitude to the club.”
