Seventeen patients had confirmed diagnoses of Covid-19, while one death was a suspected case.

1,102 people have now died in the Republic as a result of Covid-19.

Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan also confirmed that 386 new cases of the virus have been confirmed in the Republic, bringing the total to 19,648.

Six more cases were confirmed in Donegal, bringing the county total to 452.

Speaking at this evening’s health briefing, Dr Holohan said he was unlikely to recommend the easing of restrictions in Ireland after 5th May due to ICU admission rates.
