An inspirational young Donegal man has raised over €3,000 for the Irish Cancer Society in memory of his close friend, Callum Friel.
Conan Brennan from Creeslough has put himself through three challenges in recent weeks as part of a successful birthday fundraiser.
The 19-year-old LYIT student has completed an extreme ice bucket challenge, dyed his hair pink and did a head shave all for the memorial cause.
All of Conan’s tasks were completed in memory of his close friend and former team mate, Callum Friel.
Callum, a popular sportsman from Dunfanaghy, sadly passed away in January at the age of 17. He is dearly missed by a wide circle of friends, and Conan’s fundraiser was just one way that Callum’s great memory has been kept alive.
The fundraiser began with an original target of €200 when Conan first asked friends to donate to the Irish Cancer Society instead of sharing birthday gifts this year. As support grew, he decided to set quirky challenges to boost the total even further to an amazing €3,000. Money raised will be used to fund night nursing care for cancer patients and for information services for cancer patients and their families during Covid-19.
A proud relative of Conan’s told Donegal Daily: “He is a genuine kind hearted fella that has a massive heart and is always willing to help everyone out. We are very proud of him.”
