Man ‘lucky to survive’ crash believed he was insured

May 21, 2020

A MAN involved in a crash from which he was ‘lucky to survive’ has been fined for driving with no insurance.

The case of David Keating, with an address at 70 St Bridget’s, Navan, was heard at Falcarragh District Court.

Keating was involved in a single vehicle crash on October 1, 2017 at Dunlewey, Co Donegal.

Keating was unable to attend court, but in an email to Gardaí, he outlined that he mistakenly believed he was covered to drive the car on the date in question.

Inspector Seamus McGonagle read the email from Keating, who said that he would rather the case be heard in his absence rather than have it adjourned.

“Myself and my wife were lucky to survive and I would rather it be dealt with,” Keating wrote.

Keating avoided disqualification, but was fined €250 by Judge Paul Kelly and given four months to pay.
