‘Big thank you’ – Donegal motorist’s heartfelt note to Gardaí

A PASSING motorist lifted the spirits of hard-working Gardaí in Letterkenny today.

Gardaí at a Covid-19 checkpoint in Letterkenny were handed a note by a motorist.

Signed by the person’s family, the note expresses thanks for the hard work officers have put in over the last three months.

Gardaí are working 12-hour shifts and patrolling checkpoints right across the Donegal division.

However, there has been much more than the routine of checkpoint patrol for the Gardaí, who have been delivering shopping, rescuing animals – even aiding a heavily-pregnant sheep – and checking in on elderly and vulnerable members of communities/

Their endeavours haven’t gone unnoticed.

The note read: “Dear frontline worker.

“We would like to express our deep appreciation for your hard work during Covid-19 pandemic. We know that your effort is to help us stay safe.

“We are sure that it is not was to stay all day long at the checkpoint. It is not an easy job.

“Big Thank You.”

Gardaí have renewed their appeal for the public to maintain their efforts in sticking to the government guidelines.

A spokesperson said: “It really is the small things in life that make a difference such as this heartfelt gesture. We are all in this together.

“Thank you for adhering to the guidelines. It is especially hard to do so in this gorgeous spell of weather and we understand that. Please stay the course and hold firm. We have made such good progress. Let’s keep it going.”
