Cricket – Birthday boy Rankin fires Saints to victory, Letterkenny also win

ST JOHNSTON won yesterday in the T20 Championship while Letterkenny Cricket Club also took victory in the T20 Qualifying League.

St Johnston defeated Glendermott by seven wickets, with captain Michael Rankin to the fore on his birthday.

Glendermott had reached 151 for eight in their 20 overs, with Bob Robinson (55) and Mattie Barr (39) top scoring.

David Barnard claimed four wickets with David Anthony taking two of the Bonds Street side’s wickets.

St Johnston reached 152, losing just three wickets.

Rankin posted an unbeaten 61 while David Lapsley hit 29 and Ian Macbeth reached 33 not out.

In the T20 qualifying League, Letterkenny defeated Ballyspallen.

Letterkenny won by 106 runs after a fine team performance.

Fernandes hit 70 as Letterkenny – who went in to bat first – reached 166 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Ballyspallen were all out for 60. Sumit claimed four wickets for the Donegal side.
