Around 40 gardaí in the north west region are restricting their movements due to Covid-19, new figures reveal.
The Irish Independent reports there are eight positive cases among the force in Donegal, Sligo and Leitrim.
Gardaí are set to hold a meeting on Covid-19 today to discuss policing while hundreds of staff are self-isolating nationwide.
Meanwhile, extra Garda trainees and reserves are being deployed to Covid-19 duties. From 7am this morning, additional static checkpoints are being out on national routes. They will be supported by random local mobile checkpoints to support the ‘Stay Home/ Stay Safe’ message.
In the coming weeks, 70 Garda trainees and 60 Garda reserves are due to be attested to strengthen the force following the announcement of new restrictions yesterday.
