Donegal County Council gritters are being deployed to all major routes this afternoon as snow and icy conditions impact roads across the county.
All main routes will be gritted from 3pm onwards today (Friday). Plans are in place for roads to be treated again from 6am Saturday morning.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Snow/Ice Warning for Donegal from now until 12pm Saturday.
Road users are urged to slow down and be on alert for icy and hazardous conditions.
More sleet and snowfall is forecast for tonight as temperatures dip to -3C.
Sharp frost and icy patches are set to form early in the night, with the northwest due to be worst affected by the snow.
Met Eireann’s forecast for Saturday warns of more snow: “A cold start tomorrow morning with frost and ice slow to clear. Scattered wintry showers will become more isolated through the afternoon with good sunny spells developing. A more organised band of rain will approach the northwest tomorrow night falling as sleet and snow as it extends eastwards. Highest temperatures of just 2 to 4 degrees with a light to moderate westerly breeze.”
