A group of lucky families, as well as single people, will know in the coming weeks if they are to get their keys to a new council estate in Letterkenny.

The 29 homes, comprised of one, two and three bedroom dwellings have just been completed at Long Lane in Letterkenny.

The state-of-the-art homes, named Ard Ban, will be ready in the coming days.

Area manager for Letterkenny and Milford Municipal Authority, Patricia McIntyre, said an allocation list for the houses was currently being prepared.

She added that offers will be made to people at the end of April or early May.

Councillor Gerry McMonagle, who lives in the area, said the houses offered real hope for people on the council housing list.

“I had a sneak preview of the houses and they are of a very high standard. These are the type of smaller developments we should be looking at in future.

“It is quite a while since we offered people houses on this scale in Letterkenny and hopefully we can do it again soon.

“There is no reason why we as a council should not be buying smaller parcels of land and building houses on them like this.

“This is a very positive development and I wish all those people who are lucky enough to get one of these homes a very happy future there,” he said.
