A man who attacked his wife has been bound to the peace for a year.

Ray Durack wrapped his hands around his wife’s throat leaving her hardly able to breathe.

Ray Durack of Crieve Glebe was charged with assault on December 27th, 2019 when he appeared at Letterkenny District Court.

Evidence was previously given that the defendant had thrown a pie pastry at his wife before exploding in anger.

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the defendant had ran towards her and wrapped both his hands around her throat.

“She could hardly breathe and he kept saying ‘what are you going to do”.

Addressing the court, defending solicitor, Kieran O’Gorman said his client had been married for twenty-six years when difficulties arose.

“Things just went wrong. It was a minor incident that flared up over Christmas.”

Judge Paul Kelly bound the defendant over to keep the peace for a one year period on his own bond of €250.
