DYLAN Browne-McMonagle could feel his family ‘shouting down the TV’ as he romped to his first Group race victory yesterday.
Browne-McMonagle took Baron Samedi to a memorable win in the Vintage Crop Stakes at Navan.
On the 20/1 shot, Browne-McMonagle went from last to first to take victory at his first attempt in a Group race.
“I’m sure they were shouting down the TV for me,” the Letterkenny teenager beamed.
“I’m delighted to get the win for them after all the hard work and support over the years.”
It was a sixth successive win for the Joseph O’Brien-trained Baron Samedi, with Browne-McMonagle in the saddle for four of those.
The Donegal jockey said: “He won first in Cork when Shane (Crosse) rode him, then I got the leg up and won three on him.
“He went to France and won a Group Two.
“I’m delighted. Thanks to Lech Racing for having the trust in me me to keep the ride on him on the big days like this and to Joseph for all the support.”
Browne-McMonagle made a move two furlongs from home and won from Master Of Reality (8/1) by half-a-length over the one mile and six furlong distance/
He said: “I always knew he’d stay. The ground was a bit of a worry. I didn’t know how he’d go on the good ground; it was his first day on it. In fairness to him, he handled it well. I’m delighted that he performed on it.”
Trainer O’Brien hailed McMonagle, saying: “It was Dylan’s first ride in a Group race, and a winner. He’s a smashing rider for a young lad.”
