A planning application is to be resubmitted for a proposed Greenway from Carrigart to Downings.
There was disappointment last year when An Bord Pleanála turned down an application for a 2.6km footpath and cycle path to connect Carrigart and Downings.
Council officials have since been working on addressing the concerns highlighted by An Bord Pleanála, according to Deputy Joe McHugh.
Deputy McHugh said: “I would like to acknowledge the work the officials at Donegal County Council have put in to this new submission which involved engagement with National Parks and Wildlife (NPWS) and this planning application will be resubmitted shortly
“A lot of work over the years has gone into this application, including €10,000 funding from Údarás na Gaeltachta to complete an EIS during my tenure as Minister for the Gaeltacht
“It is so important from a community, environment and health and safety point of view that this project gets the green light.
“There are a number of funding avenues that will make this possible, including the Rural Recreation Fund in Minister Heather Humphreys Department.
“I know that the County Councillors including former Councillor Noel McBride, who worked hard on this project, are eager that this happens too.”
