Man back to scene of the crime after abusing Garda at courthouse

May 19, 2021

A MAN was charged after he became verbally abusive to Gardaí outside Letterkenny Courthouse.

Gardaí were attending a special sitting of the court on April 12, 2020 when the incident occurred.

Christopher Orr was walking across the forecourt when Gardaí advised that, due to Covid-19 restrictions, no-one was allowed to enter the courthouse.

Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court that Orr (29) shouted a number of obscenities to Gardaí as he walked towards the gate, calling to officers: ‘Garda prick’ and ‘ya ignorant bastard’.

When outside the gate, Orr shouted to one Garda: ‘You\re an ignorant prick’ and made a further derogatory remark in reference to the Garda’s partner.

Orr, of Cullion Road, Letterkenny, was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour in a public place.

He was not present in court.

Solicitor for Orr, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said his client wished to ‘apologise profusely’ to the Garda in question.

“Those are unacceptable comments to make to anyone,” Judge Alan Mitchell said.

The case was adjourned to June 1.
