A CASE of ‘misguided loyalty’ saw a woman attempt to open a Garda public order van after her boyfriend was arrested.

Gardaí were called to the scene of a disturbance at Manorview Park, Letterkenny at 4.32am on December 23, 2017.

Two males were fitting on the ground when Gardaí arrived. A number of onlookers were ‘stirring tensions’, Sergeant Jim Collins told Letterkenny District Court.

While Gardaí remained at the scene until matters calmed down, Nicole Hill attempted to open the van after her boyfriend at the time was arrested.

Hill, with an address in Drumkeen, was asked to desist and leave but did not do so.

A fixed charge penalty notice in respect of the incident was unpaid.

Solicitor Mr Donough Cleary said it was ‘a case of misguided loyalty at 4.30am’.

Judge Alan Mitchell fined Hill €100 and gave her six months to pay.
