FRESH from a winning performance in Sweden on Sunday evening, Mark English will race in Madrid this weekend.

The Finn Valley AC man will go in the men’s 800m at Meeting Madrid 2021.

The event, held in Estadio Vallehermoso, is a World Athletics Continental Tour meeting and will offer English a chance to bag further points to bolster his Olympic qualification ranking.

On Sunday, English won at the Sollentuna Grand Prix in Sweden.

His time of 1:45.70 was just half-a-second outside the automatic qualifying time for the Olympic Games.

English placed himself well down the back straight and he dug deep down the last 100m to stave off the attentions of two-time European indoor medalist Álvaro di Arriba  and 2018 European silver medalist Andreas Kramer.

This weekend’s race in Madrid will pit English against some top level opposition.

On the last weekend of June, English will defend his 800m title at the National Senior Championships.
