Letterkenny Institute of Technology’s New Entrant Sport Scholarship is open to anyone who will be entering LYIT on a full-time programme in 2021/22.
The deadline is fast approaching with applications closing on Monday 5 July.
Michael Murphy, Head of Sport at LYIT encourages prospective students to apply today for a sports scholarship: “I would advise anybody who meets the criteria, to apply. Applications are online. At LYIT, we are committed to providing both a top-class academic experience and a top-class sporting experience.
“The scholars receive €1500 financial support, strength and conditioning support, access to high-performance gym and academic peer mentoring support throughout the year. It really is a fantastic opportunity.”
The New Entrant Sports Scholarship targets students who are competing at a high level in one of our priority sports of Gaelic Football (men/ladies), Hurling, Soccer (men/ladies) and Basketball (men/ladies). LYIT also consider applications on a case-by-case basis in other sports from athletes who demonstrate an ability to compete at Junior or Senior International level.

Michael Langan, a fourth year LYIT student studying Sports and Exercise with Performance and Donegal GAA Men’s Senior Football player received a new entrant sports scholarship.
He said “The sports scholarship at LYIT has been of great support to me throughout my time here. The academic and mentoring support provided has helped me to combine excelling in my academic course whilst also continuing to achieve high levels of performance at elite levels of GAA with Donegal and LYIT”, says Michael.
Leah Gallen, first year student studying Quantity Surveying and a member of Raphoe Boxing Club also received a New Entrant Sports Scholarship “The financial support provided by the scholarship has assisted me greatly in my first year at LYIT. The mentoring which I acquired has helped me to make the transition into third level an overall enjoyable experience which I am grateful for”, says Leah.
