June 22, 2021

More than 40 people who were arrested in Letterkenny last weekend will be dealt with at Letterkenny District Court in the coming month.

The issue was mentioned by Judge Alan Mitchell at a sitting of Buncrana District Court today.

Judge Micthell said he had been informed by President of the District Court, former Donegal Judge Paul Kelly that he would be busy after the weekend’s events.

Judge Mitchell said “I thought I was going to be busier today as I’m told there were 42 arrests over the weekend.”

Garda Sergeant Jim Collins told the court that the court appearances of those arrested will be “staggered out.”

IT is understood those arrested will appear within the next month.

Judge Mitchell remarked that he had “dodged the bullet.”

A number of those arrested are accused of dangerous driving and drunk driving as well as public order offences.
