A virtual tribute night to the late Máire Rua has raised a staggering €7,600 so far out of a goal of €10,000.
The cash flooded in during a concert on Saturday night last to celebrate the life of the great woman which was organised by the Gaoth Dobhair community.
The aim of this celebratory event was to raise much-needed funds for a charity very close to Máire Rua’s heart, namely, Ionad Óige Ghaoth Dobhair (the Gweedore Youth Centre).
The focus of this project is the enhancement of vital youth services in our community, with the main aim of establishing a dedicated purpose built, state-of-the-art youth centre in the heart of our community.
This was Máire Rua’s dream.
This online Country Music tribute event saw an impressive star line-up of musicians performing on the night.
Musicians who performed on the night will include, her ‘Darling’ Daniel O’Donnell, Garry Gamble, Michael English, Dominic Kirwan, Margo O’Donnell, Lisa Mc Hugh, Seamus Mc Gee, Sarah Louise Mc Fadden, Hugo Duncan, John Mc Nicholl, Shawn Cuddy, Mick Flavin, Conor O’Donnell, Barry Kirwan, Robert Mizzell, Mike Denver, Derek Ryan, David James, Brian Kerrigan, Philomena Begley and Elaine Boyle.
Donations continue to flood in for the centre even after the show.
