A JUDGE has issued a number of bench warrants for Derry people who failed to turn up at Buncrana District Court.

Judge Alan Mitchell also proceeded to convict a number of other residents from across the border who didn’t show.

“Very few of our friends from Northern Ireland turned up today,” the judge remarked at the end of the sitting.

Bench warrants were issued for: for Stephen Miller (47) of 36 Primity Park who was charged with allegedly drug driving at Figary, Fahan, on June 28, 2019; James Duffy (45) of 7 Fairman Place, Rosemount, charged with allegedly drug driving at Manorstown Crossroads, Bridgend, on August 28, 2019.

Meanwhile, Ciaran Gallagher (34) of 75 Hawthorn Drive, Derry, was convicted and fined €300 after he failed to turn up to pay a €150 speeding fine.

Daniel Doherty (57) of 103 Donnybrook Road, Eglinton, was disqualified from driving for two years in his absence. He was charged with speeding and driving without a licence or insurance at Castleforward, Newtowncunningham, on August 31, 2019.
