Driving ban after ‘road rage’ incident in Letterkenny

July 17, 2021

A MAN has been disqualified from driving after a road rage incident in Letterkenny.

The case of Dariusz Kot, who is currently serving a prison sentence and is not due for release until January 2024, was before Letterkenny District Court this week.

The case related to an incident at Lismonaghan, Letterkenny on February 26, 2016.

Gardaí heard that the complainant in the case was driving towards Letterkenny with an 18-month-old child in the rear of the car.

He saw a silver car close behind him beginning to swerve over and back on the white line, Sgt Jim Collins told the court.

The silver car overtook the complainant’s car on a corner. The vehicles became stuck in traffic when Kot got out of his car.

He approached the other vehicle and began shouting obscenities at the driver, closing his fist and threatening that he would punch the other motorist.

Garda Smith ordered Kot to produce his documentation, but these were never tendered to Gardaí.

“This incident shouldn’t have happened,” Kot’s solicitor, Mr Patsy Gallagher, said, adding that his client had ‘a lot of difficulties’ in his own life at the time of the incident.

“He was driving in a very erratic manner,” Judge Deirdre Gearty said.

Judge Gearty disqualified Kot for two years and fined him a total of €650.
