Action sought over speeding on Leck Road

Donegal County Council is set to contact gardaí over excessive speeding on the Leck Road in Letterkenny.

The road was recently resurfaced, but the improved condition has given rise to speeding, according to Councillor Donal Coyle.

Cllr Coyle told this month’s Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting that he was concerned for pedestrians’ safety, as the footpath only goes so far.

“Other problems now that have arisen is the residents living along the road are finding it difficult to get out from their houses,” Cllr Coyle said.

“There are farmers finding it difficult to come out to the road. There are a number of businesses along the road as well.”

The road has a speed limit of 60km/hr, but Cllr Coyle said that doesn’t seem to be stopping the excessive speeds travelled by some motorists.

“I think there has to be something done about it, it has become a very serious problem,” he said.
