ADRIENNE Gallen produced a stunning performance to set a new Tailteann Games record in Santry.

The Lifford-Strabane AC star won the girls hammer event in style.

Gallen threw a monster 62.80 metres – eclipsing the previous Championship best by Michaela Walsh from Swinford (60.66m), set in 2015.

Gallen’s superb throw was also recognised with the St Columba’s College, Stranorlar student named as the female athlete of the meet.

Gallen will now take part in an international meet in Derby as part of an Irish squad made up of the top two from Saturday’s Tailteann Games.

Tir Chonaill AC’s Lucy McGlynn, competing for Colaiste Cholmcille in Ballyshannon, had an impressive win in the 300m hurdles. McGlynn won in 44.32 seconds and also took bronze in the shot put.

Ellie McCurdy, another Lifford-Strabane AC prospect out of Holy Cross, Strabane, won the girls javelin, reaching out to 41.23m, an effort that was 2m beyond her nearest competitor and Tir Chonaill AC’s Tori Murcha – a student at Abbey VS – won the girls high jump at 1.68m.

Harriet McCrossan, a student at St Cecilia’s College won the 100m in 12.52 seconds. The Lifford-Strabane AC woman was also a gold medal winner in the 4x100m relay, joined on that team by Olympian AC’s Sophie Parlour.

Hannah Murray from Finn Valley AC and representing St Columba’s College, Stranorlar, was the silver medalist in the 300m while Tir Chonaill AC’s Alex Anderson of Abbey VS was third in the hammer.

Murray also took silver in the girls 4x300m relay.

Limavady Grammar student Finn O’Neill of Lifford-Strabane AC and Daniel McHugh, the Finn Valley AC athlete competing for St Columba’s, were part of the gold-winning Ulster relay team in the 4x400m.

O’Neill won bronze in both the 100m hurdles and the shot.

There were fourth-placed finishes for Oisin Thompson of St Columba’s College in the long jump, Una O’Donnell from St Columba’s in the hammer and Blaine Lynch, the Omagh CBS man who competes out of Finn Valley AC, in the javelin.
