Serious concerns have been raised over the impact of roadworks on the Four Lane scheme in Letterkenny.
Lane confusion and the disruption to businesses on the N56 road was discussed by the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District on Tuesday.
Cllr John O’Donnell told the council that motorists are unsure about what lane they should be in, due to the unclear markings.
“I appreciate the fact that a number of weeks ago they removed some of the white lines. I think the existing lines need to be removed a bit more still,” Cllr O’Donnell said.
“Cars are veering in and out of lanes. Only if you’re familiar with the lanes, you would know what road to be going.”
Cllr O’Donnell added that local businesses are suffering from reduced access since barriers were placed in the centre of the road. Business owners feel they’ve been “left behind”, he said.
In light of the issues, Cllr O’Donnell has called for a safety audit to be carried out on the new layout between the Pole Star Roundabout and the Dry Arch Roundabout. The matter has been referred to the TII.
