Carrigart man in court on money laundering and terrorist financing

A Carrigart man has appeared in court charged under the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act.

Brian Shiels appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court today where he pleaded guilty.

He is charged with handling or possessing €19,000 that is the proceeds of criminal conduct while knowing or believing the property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

Ms Shiels was arrested at Umragh Cottages in Carrigart on October 21st, 2021.

He only spoke to plead guilty to the charge.

His barrister Ms Fiona Crawford said Shiels is 33 and is currently employed as a milk delivery driver.

He has no previous convictions.

The case was adjourned for sentencing until the next sitting of the circuit court.
