November 5, 2021

A man has appeared in court charged with holding up a shop in Letterkenny.

Stephen Stokes, aged 29, pleaded guilty to stealing €600 in cash and five boxes of Benson and Hedges cigarettes at Kernan’s Spar at LOwer Main Street on July 8th last.

Stokes, of no fixed abode, spoke only to plead guilty to the charge.

He is charged with using force or putting Mark Hegarty in fear during the incident.

Barrister Sean Magee told Letterkenny Circuit Court that his client is already in custody in Mountjoy Prison on another charge.

He said Stokes has done a number of courses in prison and is alcohol and drug free and also asked for a Governer’s report before the next court siting.

Judge John Aylmer adjourned the case until January for sentencing.
