A retired Garda who cycled from Mizen to Malin has raised more than €10,500 for two very worth local charities

Detective Garda John Rooney retired in April after having served for over 30 years within the Ballyshannon District. And he certainly did not rest up and enjoy a well deserved lie-in for very long.

John completed a continuous 615Km solo cycle from Mizen to Malin in June in aid of the Little Blue Heroes and also North West STOP-Suicide Prevention.

This week, he presented a cheque for €5,289.76 to ‘North West Stop’ in Ballyshannon. This is half of the proceeds that were raised as a result of John’s cycle in June. The other half went to the Little Blue Heroes.

‘North West Stop’ provides their service within Donegal and there is no charge.

If you are feeling low, stressed or if you are having suicidal thoughts then call or text them on 086-7772009 .

Please take that first step and reach out for support.

It takes courage to ask for help but we are all human and we all need help at times.

Little Blue Heroes is a not-for-profit charitable foundation established by Garda staff which aims to support local Gardaí in providing financial assistance to families with children that have serious illness who are in need.

In addition, the foundation aims to provide Garda themed distraction toys, activity books, and children’s events (e.g. Garda for a Day) for the children they support.
