Man arrested in connection with Whoriskeys Christmas Lights theft

A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a donation box at the Whoriskey’s Christmas Lights Appeal in Kerrykeel.

The box, understood to contain around €600, was taken from outside the home of local couple Mary and Michael Whoriskey at 9pm last night.

Each year the couple spend weeks preparing a spectacular lights display at their home at Gortcally.

Gardai have now confirmed to Donegal Daily that a man in his 20s was arrested last night in connection with the theft.

A spokesperson told us “Gardaí attended an incident of theft that occurred in the Gortcally area of Kerrykeel, Co Donegal at approximately 9pm last night, Saturday, 4th December 2021.

“A piece of property was taken from a public area in the course of this incident.

“One man, aged in his 20s, was arrested in relation to this incident.

“He has since been charged and is due to appear before a sitting of Letterkenny District Court at approximately 10:30am on the 6th of December 2021.”
