A deep sense of loss is felt in Ballyshannon this week following the sad passing of a local man in the US.

Brian ‘Bickie’ Bannon passed away suddenly from illness in New York on Sunday last.

Described as a wonderful man and a ‘legend’, Brian was a talented musician who had many friends and had a deep connection with his hometown.

He is mourned by his partner Melissa, his father Tom, his sister Orla, brother Paul, and an extended circle of family and friends.

Tributes have poured in from Ballyshannon clubs and businesses following the sad news of his passing, and that of local Paramedic Frankie O’Donnell on Monday.

“The sudden passing of Bickie on Sunday morning in NY was a shock, followed this morning of Frankie’s passing brought a blanket of disbelief to the town,” said the Ballyshannon Business Chamber.

“The loss of two of Ballyshannon’s true gents has been unbelievable. Both with past family businesses – growing up in town many years ago we remember The Shop on the Donegal Rd owned by the Bannon family and of course O’Donnell’s Bakery where Frankie spent many’s a day!”

Heartfelt condolences have been extended to both families at this time.

Brian’s funeral service will take place in his adopted home of Sunnyside, New York on Thursday 23rd December.
